KITTEN PYRAMID PRESENT NEW TRACK ROAD HOG out MAY 16 2022 via Flip Flop Records

Pigcasso the painting pig stars in the 60 second reel released on National Vegetarian Week with support from the Vegetarian Society

Experimental UK pop-proggers Kitten Pyramid are pleased to announce their first single Road hog, released on National Vegetarian Week, May 16, and features Pigcasso the viral sensation from South Africa that paints canvases that have captured the imagination of the BBC, CNN, SKY News and the public globally.

Pigcasso and Joanne Lefson represent the first human - non-human art collaboration of its kind https://pigcasso.org/

This is the first single from the Burton-Upon-Trent band’s upcoming film and album KIDDO due this year. Road hog raises the question of how we can choose to love some animals and eat others, and the short 60 second video suggests ‘If you love animals, don’t eat them’ The subject of eating meat underpins the forthcoming film and album, and footage of Pigcasso in action is hoped to help draw attention to the topic and humanise animals in a way rarely seen before.

The project has also caught the attention of the Vegetarian Society who are now supporting Kitten Pyramid through events such as National Vegetarian Week and their anniversary.

“Tasty little roadkill, if it happened naturally, I’d turn on the grill”

The gentle folk track attempts to disarm the listener sonically, while delivering verses that suggest we should consider feeding mum to nan for Christmas dinner, to ‘baste her so she’s tender for our nan’

“I drove past an abattoir lorry filled with sheep just after Christmas, and I was momentarily transported into the back with the animals. I imagined what it would be like to be in there, terrified, with my family, not knowing what to expect.” says Milligan “Since the epiphany I haven’t eaten meat and felt compelled to make a film and album on the subject. It’s been a gory, enlightening and often fascinating journey of discovery and I can’t wait for it all to be released. I found Pigcasso when scrolling through Facebook and I asked my manager if she could get in touch with Joanne Lefson, the founder of the sanctuary where the animal artist lives. Within an hour I was talking to Joanne while she was on her way to the sanctuary from Cape Town, and she later supplied me with all this amazing footage and photos of Pigcasso’s work. It was a similar experience with The Vegetarian Society, and

Richard McIlwain, CEO of the society suggested National Vegetarian Week would be the ideal time to start the ball rolling. They were on board immediately.”

Road hog was recorded at Rockfield Studios and mastered at Abbey Road Studios.

Bio: Kitten Pyramid began as a collective in 2010, the brainchild of singer-songwriter Scott Milligan and initially ranged from two to 20 members. In 2013 they released their debut album Uh-Oh!, followed by the EP High Five Scuba Dive, with Procol Harum’s late guitarist Dave Ball featuring on both releases (and as the Grim Reaper in the video for English Rosa). In 2015 they caught the ear of 6Music presenter and performer Tom Robinson, who took them out on his UK tour. Kitten Pyramid launched Uh-Oh! with a tour of psychiatric hospitals (they were followed by The Guardian for two days), and have featured in
MOJO ★ ★ ★ ★, Classic Rock ★ ★ ★ ★ and Prog magazines, been Sunday Brunch’s Single Of The Week on Channel 4 and were termed “fittingly barking” and “Hunky Dory with a dash of Syd” for their marvellously left-of-field progressive pop. Second album KOOZY!! was released in April 2021 recorded in Konk and Rockfield Studios. The band featured members of The Leisure Society. It garnered similar acclaim to the debut with Classic Rock “Beautiful Album” ★ ★ ★ ★, and “Hyper intelligent, brilliant references, frantic time signatures, fabulous tunes, well-crafted concepts.” Record Collector “A surfeit of nagging hooks, arresting musical quirks and WTF lyrics ensures KOOZY!! is an album that keeps demanding attention” Prog Magazine ★ ★ ★ ★

“An XTC-Beatles-Beefheart hybrid one minute, a moodily blue Pink Floyd the next” Prog

“If British psychedelia is your bag, this is your new favourite band” The Independent

“Picasso could have been at the controls” The Guardian

Road hog will be available on all digital and streaming outlets on the eve of National Vegetarian Week, May 16, via Flip Flop Records and is produced by Nick Brine (Oasis, Stone Roses, Ash, Teenage Fanclub, The Darkness) and Scott Milligan. Original band member Chris Baldwin (also in Paddy Considine’s band Riding the Low) plays guitar and piano on the track.

Road hog's single artwork features art by Pigcasso and Joanne Lefson collaboratively and is called ‘Beautiful Life’
